The Will of Zachariah Prewitt

In the name of God Amen I Zachariah Prewitt of the County of Pittsylvania in the state of Virginia being of sound mind and disposing memory and knowing the uncertainty of all things but especially the certainty of death do make and ordain this my last will and testament.

1st I give to Sally Brown a Feather bed and furniture one cow and calf with some other household furniture not recollected which she has received.

2nd I give to Wiley Prewitt the same amount of Property with Sally together with one shotgun now in his possession.

3rd I give to Polly Richardson 1 Bed & furniture cow & calf &c which she has received.

4th I give to Jincy Love 1 feather bed & furniture and five dollars and fifty cents received by her.

5th I give to Leahana Hall 1 feather bed & furniture one cow and calf with some other small articles which she has received.

6th I give to Mary Ann Prewitt my Grand daughter one feather bed & furniture one brindle heifer and now claimed by her.

7th I give to Alexander Prewitt my grand son one bay mare colt.

8th I loan to Rhoda Prewitt during her life one cow and yearling all the stock of sheep and hogs one bay mare two feather beds & furniture with all the other household and Kitchen furniture of every description and all the plantation utensils and I wish the land to be used by her or rented out for her benefit so long as she may live and after her death I wish the tract of one hundred acres to be sold together with the other property loaned to my daughter Rhoda upon a credit of twelve months and one half of the money arising from the land to be given to my son Wiley Prewitt and the balance with the money on hand and the debts if any due me to be divided between my legates as aforesaid to Wit -- Sally Brown Polly Richardson Jincy Love Leahanna Hall Catherine Smith Thomas Prewitt and William Prewitt or the heirs of their body.

Lastly I appoint J M Williams my Executor to this my last will and Testament. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 16th day of January 1840.
